I have been designing collectors coins for the Royal Canadian Mint for many years. But a special series of 3 coins called “Lost Ships of Canada” is one of the most interesting I have designed. On the left you will see the “Empress of Ireland” which sank in 1914 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. In the middle you will see HMS Erebus and Terror, the 2 ships in the Franklin Expedition and on the right you will see the Edmond Fitzgerald, lost in Lake Superior in 1975. I believe the Mint has sold out of these coins but you can still buy them through the Shopping Channel. See link below.
Please go to my additional story about designing the Franklin Expedition coin in May 2014 and then the wreck of the Erebus being found in September 2014. very very exciting.
