This painting illustrates an actual rescue conducted during the 2025 roe herring fishery in Lambeth Channel, off Comox, BC.

The “Delta Lifeboat” is shown standing by a disabled herring skiff which is desperately holding onto an anchored gill net in gale-force winds and extremely rough and shallow water. The skiff’s motor had failed and it was about to be blown onto the rocks. The Lifeboat’s RIB has just passed a tow line which, when secured, will enable the skiff to be towed to safety. This was one of three such rescues performed with great skill by the CLI all-volunteer crew that day.

“Delta” is one of the lifeboats in the Canadian Lifeboat Institution’s (CLI) fleet, the CLI deploys at least one of its lifeboats annually in support of the very dangerous roe herring fishery.
