This painting depicts a traditional but vanishing way of life along the remote shores of Nova Scotia, and is a good example of the fine detailing for which Horton is known. Horton notes that vistas such as this are becoming rarer: “it’s changing dramatically. Historic fishing shacks are being bought up and turned into weekend cottages.” After decades of painting scenes on the west coast of Canada, Horton decided to venture further afield. Buyers have welcomed, and added to their collections, the resulting portrayals of historical and picturesque settings.
